Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary’s Annual Performance of “The Animals’ Thanksgiving.”
First graders at Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary held their annual performance of “The Animals’ Thanksgiving.” The students had researched an animal and it’s habitat. In class they had been learning about the various habitats and the specific animals that live in there. They sang “Super Turkey” and each child told what they were thankful for at school or at home.

Sixth Grade Placement Survey Information
Dear Rockwall ISD Parents and Families,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to our recent survey about the placement of sixth grade students. We had nearly 2,000 responses which shows that our community cares deeply about this issue.
On Monday night, we shared with our Board of Trustees that 69% of families would prefer to keep sixth grade students in elementary schools.
Our Trustees asked me to share with you that they greatly appreciated your responses and that they intend to take steps in future meetings to keep sixth grade students in elementary campuses.
Rockwall ISD is a destination school district. This means each year we will see an increase in the number of students in our schools. We must take steps to prepare for this future growth and to improve the quality of educational opportunities we provide.
This survey was one of the ways we are reaching out to our community for feedback as we make plans for the future.
Thank you again for your time and opinions. Your support is important to our continued success.

Each class will have the opportunity to code in the computer lab this week along with other students worldwide, during the Hour of Code.
Rockwall Middle Schools Excel at the District Academic UIL One-Act Play Contest
All three Rockwall ISD Middle Schools displayed great skill at the District Academic Middle School UIL One-Act Play Contest this past weekend at Rockwall Heath High School.
The District was made up of seven middle schools from Rockwall ISD, Forney ISD, Lancaster ISD and Terrell ISD.
Maurine Cain Theater Department, under the direction of Jenae Glanton, earned first place in the district. J. W. Williams Theater Department, under the direction of Dawn Andrews, earned second place in the district. All three Rockwall ISD middle schools also earned individual acting and technical awards.
About the Middle School UIL One-Act Play Contest
The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive literary and academic competitive program in the nation. It offers more than any other UIL division in terms of activities, with 22 high school and 18 elementary and junior high contests. More than a half million students participate in UIL academic contests. These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills.
The League’s One-Act Play Contest, founded in 1927, is the largest high school play production contest or play festival in the world. The One-Act Play Contest is supported by more than 200 college and university faculty members serving as critic judges. The League’s theatre program is considered by historians to be the foundation of educational and community theatre in Texas. It continues to be a major factor motivating increasing numbers of schools to offer theatre arts as an academic subject.
The UIL One-Act Play contest is a competition where similarly sized Texas schools present an 18-40 minute play and may be adjudicated by a panel of three judges or a single judge. The contest is held on a single day and open to the public. There are five possible levels of competition: Zone, District, Area, Region, and State. At each level of competition a judge awards individual acting awards as well as selecting two productions to advance to the next level of competition. Middle School Contests do not advance after the district level. After the awards are announced a Judge gives an oral critique to each of the schools. Because of the wide participation and diversity of plays produced certain rules and guidelines have been adopted by the State One-Act Play Office. These rules are in place to ensure safety, allow for equity, satisfy legal standards, and make the running of the contest practical.

Rockwall-Heath Hawks Make Pancake for the Park a Success
This past weekend many Rockwall-Heath High School clubs and organizations volunteered to host the 2nd Annual Pancakes for the Park, in honor of Samantha Knostman. The event was a great success, with well over 200 people in attendance. RISD culinary students cooked the pancakes for people to enjoy. The RHHS orchestra set the tone with wonderful holiday music. Santa and the FCCLA elves brought holiday cheer to the young and old. Student Council was key in providing crafts for children to enjoy. This event allowed over 70 students to volunteer and give back to our community. Clubs that helped were: Volleyball, Student Council, FCCLA, Culinary students, Kindness and Compassion Club, Sisters with Class, Boys Soccer, ASL club, National Art Honor Society, and DECA. Ann and Doug Knostman, Samantha’s parents, stated “we continue to be overwhelmed with the love and support everyone has shown our family and this project. It continues to amaze us what these wonderful people are able to accomplish”. Since all of these clubs donated time and supplies, the Samantha Knostman Memorial Fund was able to raise over $3,000, all of which will go towards scholarships for RISD students in the spring.

Pullen Elementary Student Leads Fund Raiser for the American Cancer Society
Pullen Elementary 5th grade student, Alaina Pucylowski found out that a close family member was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to do something about it. She decided to talk to Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary Principal, Mrs. JaNiece Rainey and asked to do a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. With the whole hearted support of her parents and her Principal, she decided to get some of her friends involved as well. Pullen Elementary 4th grader Tessa Tremback and fifth graders, Garret Cecil, Michael Allen, and Ethan Johnson helped her go around her neighborhood and ask for donations. Alaina and her friends also set up a fund raising table at school and sold American Cancer Society pins. These Pullen Elementary leaders have raised 500 dollars and presented their check to the American Cancer Society. Alaina and her friends’ future plans include to continue to raise money for the American Cancer Society through a website and organize and host a School Wide Relay for Life in May at Pullen Elementary. When asked what she and her friends learned through this experience she said , “That helping people is really fun and that teamwork makes a job so much easier!” Pullen Elementary is proud of our Pullen Panther leaders who continue to incorporate Steven Covey’s Leader In Me Seven Basic Habits to make our school and their world a better place through their generous donation of time, creativity, and compassion.
