Mrs. Melissa Barnes and her SAGE students were recently awarded a grant titled “Growing Minds, Growing Communities”. They will begin their project in January, 2015.
Have you ever wondered how a city or a community gets started? Well so have we! Together we are going to create our own personal communities while developing our minds as well. Students will complete research on how a community works, runs and is formed. Then they will develop their own community while working in groups as well as partnerships with the various campuses. Students will decide on needs of streets, houses, schools, community helpers, rules, laws etc. They will also take into consideration topographical features as well as weather. Once everything has been decided upon for their new community the students will actually build, video and “pitch” their community to various civic leaders.
