Beginning this fall Rockwall ISD will add a new option for dealing with inclement weather, a two-hour delayed start. The two-hour delayed start will be used on days when weather conditions are likely to improve significantly during the morning hours.
When a two-hour delayed start is in effect, bus pickups and school start times will be delayed by two hours. Afternoon release times and afternoon bus routes would not change.
As with all weather related communications, Rockwall ISD will strive to make a decision and communicate to parents about a two-hour delayed start by 5:30 a.m. This information will be communicated through the rockwallisd.com website, an email to parents, text messages and Rockwall ISD social media accounts.
By adding this option, Rockwall ISD will enable students to lose as little instructional time as possible due to inclement weather. Days with a two-hour delayed start would not have to be made up later in the year.
Television and radio stations will also be notified about the delayed start, however they are the last group notified of a decision. We encourage parents to check rockwallisd.com to receive the latest information on any decision.
