Jay Fisher, a 5th grade science and social studies teacher at Howard Dobbs Elementary, was surprised with balloons, cake and cash prize when he was announced as H-E-B’s Excellence in Education Award Finalist.
This award distinguishes and celebrates a public school professional who has shown a dedication to inspire a love of learning in students. Both Jay Fisher and Howard Dobbs Elementary were awarded $1,000.
The H-E-B Excellence in Education Award is among the largest monetary awards program for educators across the nation. This award was created to celebrate and recognize educators who are among the best in the state.
Teachers across the state will be surprised and presented with checks after being announced as finalists. The finalists are invited to compete against each other in San Antonio on May 12-13 for a chance to win cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. The winner will be announced at a gala on the evening of May 13, 2017.
