On Tuesday, May 24, Rockwall ISD hosted a Memorial Day Celebration to honor service men and women of the past and present. Each branch of the military was applauded throughout the service. A district-wide choir and band honored attending veterans with the armed forces salute, where they were asked to stand as their song representing their branch of the armed forces was played.
Rockwall ISD wanted to publicly show our support and gratitude to our military, therefore, guests of the event signed a “Thank You” banner in the foyer of the Performing Arts Center. The banner will be proudly displayed near the Veterans Memorial area at the county courthouse.
In addition, Rockwall ISD recognized and thanked a special group of students who will be graduating from high school and will go into the military following their graduation.
This year’s event had a keynote speaker, Retired Brigadier General Tom Kula, a North Chicago, Illinois, native. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1982. He holds a Master’s Degree in Military Arts and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies, Command and General Staff College.
